The explanations from the authorities of Dagestan regarding the reasons for the shortage of textbooks did not satisfy the parents of schoolchildren.
The statement from the Ministry of Education and Science of Dagestan that there is a shortage of textbooks in schools due to the increase in the number of students seems unfounded, as the authorities should plan the organization of the educational process in advance. While schools lack textbooks, educational materials are freely sold in markets, parents of schoolchildren pointed out on social media.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Dagestan have repeatedly complained about the problem with school textbooks. On September 9, parents of schoolchildren in Makhachkala, Kaspiysk, and the Novolaksky district reported that children were not provided with a complete set of free textbooks, and families had to buy books themselves.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Dagestan, local school library funds lack more than 6.4 million textbooks worth over 5 billion rubles. The main reasons for the shortage are the increase in the number of schoolchildren and the transition to new unified federal textbooks.
The authorities are purchasing unified state textbooks. Priority is given to large families and low-income families, as well as children of participants in the Special Military Operation, the ministry reported on its website on September 8, as noted by the newspaper "Youth of Dagestan.
A post stating that Dagestan schools lack more than 6.4 million textbooks was published in the Instagram*-public makhachkala_, which has about 251 thousand followers. As of 12:00 Moscow time on September 12, this post received 3,167 likes and 490 comments.
Commenters, identifying themselves as residents of Dagestan, pointed out that the textbooks that are lacking in schools are available for sale. "Why are books freely available in the market?" asked gasanov_2022.
"In Makhachkala, there are plenty in TSUM, but it's strange that they are not in schools. I also had to buy six books for my children; what can I do, business is business," wrote gadzhimurad_2707.
"There are indeed many in stores, but why is there a shortage in schools? Interesting," noted hello_beady.
Some commenters stated that textbooks sold in markets are, according to them, intended for schools. "In Makhachkala, in TSUM, there are many used books with stamps from different schools. They are not in schools, but they are abundant in the market," wrote ramirkurbanaliev8_.
"We were also given very old books, barely usable, without pages, and we bought the rest near TSUM (by the way, they have school stamps on them). Some are selling library books in the market. Shame on the officials of Dagestan, can't you buy these books for city schools?" noted tarlandadashev1981.
"Look at the market. Even the school number is written on them," stated i_b_k_771.
Users questioned the explanation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Dagestan that one of the reasons for the shortage of textbooks was the increase in the number of schoolchildren.
"What does it mean that the number of children has increased? They didn't appear all at once. There is monitoring of children from birth, and the order for textbooks is made four years in advance. This needs to be managed and done properly, then there will be enough textbooks. It seems that in Dagestan this work has been left to chance, and the few that arrive do not reach the students. The whole chain is working incorrectly here," wrote mario_puzo_ooo.
"You are worried about books; soon there will be a shortage of students and teachers, our average school has only two dozen children," wrote 1sanova_2.
We remind you that problems with conditions and provision of schools in Dagestan have repeatedly become a reason for complaints from local residents. For example, on September 9, residents of the village of Gyukhra in the Tabasaransky district reported that children are studying in rented premises after the closure of an emergency school. On September 5, it became known that in the village of Irib in the Charodinsky district, the school line was held in a madrasa because the school building was not ready for the start of the school year.
