As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in early June, the court transferred to the state the property of former judge Elena Khakhalova, her family, and close associates.
The Krasnodar Regional Court recognized the confiscation of the property of former judge Elena Khakhalova and her family members as lawful, reported the Russian Legal and Judicial Information Agency on September 11.
The judicial panel determined that the decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court should remain unchanged, the appeals of the defendants were rejected, and the decision came into legal force. Shares in the authorized capital of four commercial organizations, 73 plots of land, and about 100 residential and non-residential buildings and premises, as well as funds in the defendants' accounts totaling more than 15.5 million rubles, were transferred to the state.
It should be noted that investigators believe that in 2019, Khakhalova went on business trips that she did not properly document, and her absences were considered as truancy. In total, she missed 127 working days while continuing to receive a salary, and during her absence, she received 1.2 million rubles. In December 2021, the Supreme Qualification Collegium of Judges of Russia allowed a case to be initiated against Khakhalova, and a week before that, Khakhalova left Russia. In May 2022, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia ordered a case to be initiated against Khakhalova on charges of official forgery and fraud, and the court arrested her in absentia. On January 27, 2025, the authorities of Azerbaijan informed the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia that Elena Khakhalova was detained at Baku airport while attempting to fly to Dubai. In March, she left Azerbaijan and went to another country, reported her lawyer Shahla Gumbatova, who defended Khakhalova. In April, it became known that she resides in Tbilisi, and, according to her lawyer, the investigative authorities are aware of this.
