25 Azerbaijani families returned to the Jebrail district
Today, 154 members of Azerbaijani families returned to the village of Shukyurbeyli, who left the Jebrail district during the Karabakh conflict.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 28, 86 members of Azerbaijani families returned to Shukyurbeyli, who left the Jebrail district during the Karabakh conflict.
The Jebrail district came under the control of Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day Karabakh war in 2020. President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijani troops had taken the city of Jebrail (Armenian name - Jraghank) on October 4, 2020.
Families returning to the village of Shukyurbeyli in the Jebrail district were handed the keys to their homes. ANAMA staff provided citizens with detailed information about the dangers posed by mines and unexploded ordnance. Families were advised to stay away from suspicious objects and items, and in case of encountering such situations, to report them to the relevant authorities, reports Report.
At this stage, 25 families - 154 people have resettled in the village of Shukyurbeyli, reports Baku.ws.
The resettled former internally displaced persons had previously lived temporarily in various parts of the country, mainly in dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings.
It is worth noting that on September 19-20, 2023, Azerbaijan conducted large-scale military operations and took control of the territory of Karabakh, after which a mass exodus of the Armenian population began. By October 7, 2023, 100,632 internally displaced persons from Karabakh arrived in Armenia, and by September 2024, only 14 Armenians remained in the region. The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that internally displaced persons living in a dormitory of a lyceum in Baku had previously complained about living conditions. More than 30 families from the Zangilan and Jebrail districts were resettled in the building. Earlier, residents of Azerbaijan who returned to Karabakh told a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that they are settling in and finding work. Despite ongoing issues with employment and infrastructure, the displaced persons note an improvement in living conditions.
In November 2023, the Azerbaijani authorities announced plans to return up to 34,500 families (140,000 people) to the former conflict zone in Karabakh by the end of 2026. The pace of resettlement is hindered by mine danger, lack of jobs, and unresolved land use issues.
