A soldier from Dagestan was killed in Ukraine

Batyrkhan Berkiyhanov from the Gumbetovsky district was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, authorities have acknowledged at least 2111 military personnel from Dagestan killed there.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", by September 9, officials and security forces named the names of at least 2110 combatants from Dagestan killed in the combat zone in Ukraine and near the border.

The name of another soldier killed in Ukraine from Dagestan was announced by the administration of the Gumbetovsky district while reporting on the opening of a memorial plaque at the Novodanukh school.

The killed Batyrkhan Berkiyhanov previously worked as a teacher at this school. "He was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage," the municipal administration reported on its Telegram channel.

The age of Berkiyhanov and details of his biography were not provided in the officials' message.

Thus, at least 2111 military personnel from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed on the Ukrainian front. "Caucasian Knot" maintains a named list of natives from the North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District killed in the military operation. The list is compiled based on data officially announced by representatives of the authorities and security agencies, according to the report from "Caucasian Knot" "Statistics of the Special Military Operation: losses are increasing for southern Russia".

Dagestan ranks first among the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District in the number of killed whose names have been officially disclosed by the authorities. Sergey Melikov, who headed Dagestan in February 2022, was the first among the authorities to announce that a Russian soldier had been killed in Ukraine, acknowledging the death of officer Nurmagomed Gadzhimagomedov.

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on "Channel One" do not guarantee support from the state for the families of the killed, as stated in the material from "Caucasian Knot" "Three Comrades Served: how authorities deprive families of killed volunteers of benefits", which describes the stories of the killed fighters. In particular, the widow of one of the killed recounted that without a body, the battalion did not make payments related to the death of the serviceman.
