The number of climbers who died in the Bezingi Gorge has risen to 15.
The body of the 15th climber, who died as a result of an avalanche in the Bezingi Gorge in Kabardino-Balkaria, was found by rescuers. The fate of two others remains unknown.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 9, the body of the 14th climber was found at the site of the snow avalanche from Mount Mijirgi in the Bezingi Gorge of Kabardino-Balkaria.
The death of climbers in the Bezingi Gorge of Kabardino-Balkaria has become the most massive incident in Russian mountainous areas in a quarter of a century, notes the TASS agency, citing its own calculations.
The body of another climber was found during search and rescue operations at the site of the snow avalanche from Mount Mijirgi in the Bezingi Gorge of Kabardino-Balkaria, bringing the death toll to 15, TASS reported today, citing the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"Today, rescuers found the body of one deceased. The search for two more climbers will continue tomorrow from early morning," the Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement.
The body of the deceased climber was evacuated to the city of Nalchik with the help of a helicopter, where it was handed over to the investigative operational group of law enforcement agencies. The fate of two others remains unknown, reports "Interfax".
"Caucasian Knot" also reported on other accidents in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria. Thus, in mid-August, two climbers died and at least two were injured. At the end of July, during an ascent of Elbrus, five climbers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and one resident of the Krasnodar region died. In mid-July, during a descent from Elbrus, a 48-year-old climber from Malaysia died, who was in an unregistered group with two guides.
On July 10, two climbers fell in the Adyl-su gorge in Kabardino-Balkaria while ascending Peak Via-tau. One died, the other sustained multiple injuries. On July 7, a climber from St. Petersburg died suddenly on Elbrus.
