A resident of Vladikavkaz is suspected of justifying terrorism.
Employees of the Center "E" in North Ossetia initiated a criminal case against a resident of Vladikavkaz due to a comment on social media.
Courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in prison for publications on social media under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the real number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism make it into public court registries.
Law enforcement officials saw justification of terrorism in a comment left on social media by a resident of Vladikavkaz almost two years ago. A case has been opened against the man under the article on public justification of terrorism on the internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), which provides for a prison term of five to seven years.
According to the investigation's version, in October 2024, the suspect, while at home in Vladikavkaz, posted a publicly accessible comment in a community of one of the social networks. Operatives from the Center "E" believed that this comment was aimed at justifying terrorism.
"Necessary investigative actions are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the committed crime," the message from the republican Investigative Committee states.
The agency did not specify whether the suspect has been detained or whether a preventive measure has been chosen for him. The age and occupation of the suspect are not disclosed; investigators also did not disclose details about the content of his comment.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a military court in Rostov-on-Don has been considering the case of a resident of the village of Kiyankiz in the Andropov district since August, accused of publicly justifying terrorism due to a comment in a messenger. According to the prosecution's version, the woman, holding radically extremist views, in April 2025 justified the attacks of Ukrainian drones on the city of Chapayevsk in the Samara region.
