A resident of Kuban has been arrested on charges of treason.

A resident of the Krasnodar region has been detained, accused of attempting to become a participant in hostilities on the side of Ukraine.

FSB officers in the Krasnodar region detained a local resident born in 1999. He has been charged with attempted treason (part 3 of article 30 - article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 30 - part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), TASS reports today.

According to the security service, the man contacted a representative of a Ukrainian paramilitary group, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, to join its ranks and participate in hostilities against the Russian army. The name of the paramilitary group is not mentioned in the publication.

"After receiving the necessary instructions from the curator, the perpetrator attempted to leave the territory of the country, during which he was detained by the agency's officers. He has been placed in custody," the agency quotes the department's message.

According to the FSB, the detainee has confessed and is cooperating with the investigation, writes "Kommersant".

Part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for imprisonment from 10 to 20 years, while article 275 of the Criminal Code provides for life imprisonment.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in May, a court sentenced Krasnodar resident Kirill Denisенко to 9.5 years in a penal colony, finding him guilty of treason and attempting to illegally cross the border. According to the prosecution, Denisенко traveled to the Bryansk region to cross the border with Ukraine on foot "to participate in hostilities against Russia as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine".
