Supporters of Georgia's Eurointegration held a protest in Tbilisi for the 646th consecutive day, demanding the country's return to a Euro-Atlantic course. Human rights defenders will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Saba Skhvitariadze, convicted of assaulting a police officer during the protests.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 3, on the 645th day, participants of the continuous protests demanded the country's return to a Euro-Atlantic course. Among the flags of Georgia, Ukraine, the European Union, and the USA, there was a flag of Abkhazia.
On the 646th day, residents of Georgia gathered in front of the Parliament building and Tbilisi City Council, continuing to demand the release of political prisoners, the abolition of repressive mechanisms, and the holding of elections in a free and fair environment, reports Publika.
Participants of the action held flags of Georgia, the European Union, Ukraine, and the USA. Some participants held placards: "Bidzina - Russian regime", "To the end!", "Freedom for political prisoners", "For a free Georgia", "Freedom of media", according to a publication by photographer MO SE on Facebook*.
According to a video posted on Facebook* by user David Chkheidze, today more than 150 people gathered in front of the Parliament of Georgia on Rustaveli.
Today it became known that human rights defenders will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg regarding the case of prisoner of conscience Saba Skhvitariadze. The appeal concerns Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees the right to a fair trial.
"All three instances in Georgia, issuing a guilty verdict, relied solely on false testimony from police witnesses and unreliable evidence obtained through gross violations of the Criminal Procedure Code," human rights defenders stated.
Recall that on September 3, 2025, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced 11 people, including actor Andro Chichinadze, comedian Onise Tchadadze, and two citizens of Ukraine - Ruslan Sivakov and Sergey Kukharchuk, to two years in prison for participating in riots. Saba Skhvitariadze was sentenced to a similar term for assaulting a police officer.
Since November 28, 2024, participants in the protests in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners. Security forces have conducted harsh dispersals of protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters. During the protests, thousands of people have faced administrative prosecution.
