A resident of Karachay-Cherkessia has been arrested in absentia on charges of participating in ISIS*.

The Ust-Djegutinsky District Court of Karachay-Cherkessia has arrested a resident of the region in absentia for two months. She is accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization in Syria.

According to the investigation, the resident of Karachay-Cherkessia flew to Turkey in 2014, from where she arrived in the Syrian Arab Republic. While there, she voluntarily joined the organization "Islamic State"* and participated in its activities.

In July 2026, the suspect was put on the wanted list, and on August 10, she was charged in absentia, the united press service of the courts in the region reported today on their page on "VKontakte".

She is accused of participating in the activities of an organization that is recognized as terrorist under Russian law. The article provides for a prison sentence of ten to twenty years. On August 18, the resident of Karachay-Cherkessia was declared internationally wanted through Interpol.

The Ust-Djegutinsky District Court, having studied the materials, decided to choose a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the accused in absentia for a period of two months from the moment of her extradition to the Russian Federation or detention on the territory of the Russian Federation.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a native of Karachay-Cherkessia, Ruslan Botashev, to 18 years in a strict regime colony, finding him guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization in Syria and training in a militants' camp.
