The tourist sustained a spinal cord contusion after jumping from the bungee over the Sulak Canyon.
A 41-year-old tourist from Moscow reported that instructors pushed her off the bungee platform over the Sulak Canyon in Dagestan, despite her requests not to do so. After the jump, the woman was unable to speak, her arms and legs weakened, and her reflexes disappeared. Doctors diagnosed her with a spinal cord contusion.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 16, social media users pointed out the unresolved safety issue for tourists in Dagestan after a boat accident in the Sulak Canyon.
On August 12, a boat with tourists crashed into a rock and sank, one passenger died, and eight others required medical assistance. Social media users shared their own negative experiences of boat trips, complained about the dangerous manner of operating them and the lack of life jackets, and demanded increased safety control for tourists.
On August 31, 41-year-old tourist Anastasia from Moscow jumped from the bungee over the Sulak Canyon. Instructors pushed her off the platform against her request not to do so, causing her not to have time to group herself, complained the Moscow resident, whose story was reported today by the Telegram channel Mash Gor.
According to Anastasia, after the jump, she was unable to speak, her arms and legs weakened, reflexes disappeared, and it became difficult to breathe. In the hospital, she was diagnosed with a spinal cord contusion, as stated in the publication.
Later, her cognitive functions recovered, but then Anastasia experienced another episode of paralysis. The Moscow resident noted that she remains in the hospital.
Currently, Anastasia cannot get out of bed, and recovery may take about six months, the Telegram channel SHOT reported today.
The instructors admitted their mistake, visited Anastasia in the hospital, and paid her compensation, as stated in the publication.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that safety issues with tourist services in Dagestan have previously led to various incidents. For example, on April 30, 2025, a tourist from Nizhny Novgorod died after falling from an unguarded cliff at a recreation center in Irgana. According to the investigation, there were no proper barriers or lighting in the area.
On April 28 of the same year, a tourist from the Yaroslavl region died during a boat trip in the Sulak Canyon, and four others were injured. According to the investigation, the boat driver lacked the necessary documents and skills, violated speed limits, and, maneuvering dangerously, collided with the rocky shore.
On July 22, 2022, a family of four died after their car fell into a canyon near Khunzakh. Investigators suggested that the driver did not notice the edge of the road due to the lack of signs and barriers.
In July 2021, two tourists fell into a ravine from faulty swings near the Sulak Canyon. They avoided serious injuries thanks to a rock ledge in front of the cliff.
