Residents of Sunzha complained about the inaction of the authorities regarding the extinguishing of the landfill fire.
In the village of Nesterovskaya in the Sunzhensky district, near the "Caucasus" highway and the border with Chechnya, a large landfill has been burning for the fifth day. Local residents complain about the inaction of the authorities and firefighters.
According to local residents, almost no measures are being taken to combat the fire, and there are no fire trucks on site.
According to residents, the landfill has been burning for five days. The smoke and smog poison the lives of not only local residents but also the entire city of Sunzha. It is impossible to open windows - a pungent smell lingers in the houses around the clock. It is especially difficult at night, as the wind changes direction, and then the village is literally covered with thick smog, reports the Telegram channel "Fortanga," which published a video shot by a local resident.
Youth from the village went to the landfill to talk to the management. They assured that they do not intentionally set the garbage on fire and are doing everything possible to extinguish the fire. However, locals do not believe them. The thing is, even on the hottest summer days, the landfill did not catch fire - fires occur only in cloudy weather and when the wind picks up.
Residents are simply being poisoned.
"We believe this is not accidental: in such conditions, the smoke becomes less noticeable to the authorities and regulatory bodies. Therefore, we have every reason to suspect that the fires are deliberately set - precisely at those moments when the chance of remaining unpunished is higher. Residents are simply being poisoned," said a resident of the Sunzhensky district.
When residents call the fire service, they hear the same response: that two full trucks have already been sent, but the equipment could not even weaken the fire. After that, the fire service states that further dispatches are pointless and refuses to send special equipment to the landfill again.
Residents of the village of Nesterovskaya reported the fire at the landfill back on August 28. They feared that the fire could spread, and the toxic smoke would seriously harm their health and the environment. "The problem has been going on for decades. No authority can properly resolve these issues. There is thick smog over the village, and it is all toxic substances," the people complained.
Residents of the Sunzhensky district blocked the road, wrote appeals, and tried other methods to draw the attention of the authorities of the republic and the district, but all appeals were ignored.
It should be noted that there have already been fires at this landfill. In particular, in September 2023, the authorities reported the extinguishing of a fire at the republican solid waste landfill in the Nesterovskoye rural settlement. In January 2024, residents of Sunzha complained that they suffered for a week from the caustic smoke coming from the burning landfill.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the sluggishness of the Sunzha authorities after residents' complaints about the spontaneous landfill attracted attention to the problem at the federal level and created a "uncontrolled reputational risk," complained the head of the Regional Management Center to the Ingushetia government.
