Putin named candidates for the position of head of Karachay-Cherkessia

In addition to the current head of Karachay-Cherkessia, Rashid Temrezov, parliamentary deputies Alexander Chayka and Krym Shkhakhov are also vying for the position of head of the republic. The head of the republic will be elected by the parliamentary deputies on September 20.

Akbaev expressed confidence that he would win in direct elections, while Oleg Zhedyaev saw no chances for victory. On September 19, 2021, the deputies of the Karachay-Cherkessia parliament unanimously re-elected Rashid Temrezov as head of the republic for a new term.

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, submitted candidates for the position of head of the republic to the Karachay-Cherkessia parliament, the republican parliament reported today on its Telegram channel.

Based on the proposals of political parties, he presented three candidates for consideration by the People's Assembly (Parliament) of Karachay-Cherkessia. Rashid Temrezov – the current head of Karachay-Cherkessia, nominated by the "United Russia" party, Alexander Chayka – chairman of the committee of the Karachay-Cherkessia parliament on regulations and mandate issues, nominated by the LDPR, Krym Shkhakhov – chairman of the committee of the People's Assembly of the KCR on industry, transport, and energy, nominated by the "Just Russia" party.

"According to the current legislation of the Republic, the head of Karachay-Cherkessia will be elected by the deputies of the Parliament on the single voting day, September 20, at the next plenary session of the legislative body," the parliament informed.
