A road worker from Chechnya was fined for public prayer in Astrakhan.

A road worker from Chechnya was fined 5,000 rubles for performing a prayer right during the marking of a public road.

As established by the FSB of Russia in the Astrakhan region and the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, the man violated the requirements of the Federal Law "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations." The public performance of a religious ritual (prayer) in the middle of the work process created obstacles for traffic and was regarded by law enforcement as an offense.

As a result of the investigation, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the native of Chechnya. The court found the man guilty and imposed a fine of 5,000 rubles, reports the publication Astrakhan.ru.

The publication "Bloknot Astrakhan" published a short video where the native of Chechnya explains that he did not intend to offend people with his actions.

"I came to the city of Astrakhan to earn money, I performed the prayer on August 24 at 11:00 PM not to provoke, but simply because it was time to pray. I performed the prayer on a closed lane of the roadway where I was doing road work," he says in the video.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in early October 2025, police detained a native of Dagestan, fighter Erzimana Bayramov, in the Leningrad region on charges of hooliganism. The reason was a fight due to a conflict over prayer on the street, while a passerby who made a remark to Bayramov and called the "Russian community" refused to file a complaint.
