The Nalchik garrison military court sentenced serviceman Vazarov to six years in a general regime colony for twice failing to appear for duty at his military unit without a valid reason.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 24, 2022, parts 2.1, 3.1, and part 5 of article 337 regarding the unauthorized leaving of a unit or place of service during mobilization were introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. The tightening of legislation after the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from military units or desertion.
On August 25, the Nalchik garrison military court sentenced serviceman Vazarov, finding him guilty of committing crimes under part 3.1 of article 337 and part 5 of article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court's press service reported on its official website.
The court established that Vazarov voluntarily left the military unit on August 5, 2025, which is located in an area where martial law has been declared. Additionally, on March 31 of this year, he failed to appear on time for duty at his military unit without valid reasons. In the first case, on September 9, Vazarov was hospitalized in a medical rehabilitation center, and in the second case, on April 21, he voluntarily reported to the military investigative department located in Chechnya. Thus, the time he was absent from the military unit was spent at his place of residence.
In court, Vazarov admitted his guilt and expressed regret for his actions. The court sentenced him to six years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime colony.
On September 21, 2022, Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization. On October 28 of the same year, the Minister of Defense reported to the president about its completion, but no corresponding decree followed. Lawyers concluded that a presidential decree is not needed to complete partial mobilization, the press secretary of Putin explained. At the same time, on December 12, 2023, a military court in Maykop emphasized in the sentence of a mobilized individual who left the unit in June 2023 that "partial mobilization has been declared in the Russian Federation, which was not completed at the time the crime was committed".
