The anti-corruption court has arrested the son of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Sedrak, for two months.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 25, former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak were detained. The investigation claims that during Kocharyan's presidency, a number of state property objects were acquired at undervalued prices, and part of the property and shares of companies were used to obtain bribes and were registered in the names of his family members.

The anti-corruption court, at the request of the investigation, has arrested Robert Kocharyan's son Sedrak for two months, News.am reports today, citing lawyer Alexander Kochubaev.

According to Kochubaev, Kocharyan is prohibited from receiving visitors, except for family members - his wife and children. The lawyer also called the court's decision an unlawful process, as the deadlines for initiating the case were violated. "This is purely political persecution," said Kochubaev, whose words are quoted by "Sputnik-Armenia".

As for Robert Kocharyan himself, after his detention, he felt unwell and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The measure of restraint for him will be chosen after his condition stabilizes, writes "News-Armenia".

Earlier, Kocharyan's younger son Levon reported that about two weeks ago, his father underwent a stenting procedure and there was a strict prescription to remain at rest and under medical supervision for a month.

On June 14, law enforcement did not allow Kocharyan to fly out of Armenia, although the reasons for the ban were not named at that time. On June 16, the Prosecutor General's Office requested the CEC to allow criminal prosecution of the second President of Armenia, as his status as a candidate in the parliamentary elections provided him with immunity. On June 17, the CEC granted this request.
