The court sentenced former Vice-Governor of Krasnodar Krai Alexander Nesterenko to nine years in a penal colony, finding him guilty of exceeding his official powers.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in mid-May, the Lenin District Court of Krasnodar denied the defense of former Vice-Governor of Kuban Alexander Nesterenko release from house arrest under a travel ban. On August 14, the prosecutor requested to sentence him to nine years in a penal colony. Nesterenko's wife published an official appeal to the President of Russia, the Supreme Court, and the Prosecutor General's Office, stating that the case was fabricated and had violations.

The Lenin Court of Krasnodar on August 24 found former Vice-Governor of Krasnodar Krai Alexander Nesterenko guilty of exceeding his powers with serious consequences (paragraphs "v" and "e" of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), reports "Kommersant".

The former official was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment with a recovery of 146.7 million rubles in property damage. He is also prohibited from holding positions in public service and local government for three years. At the same time, the court counted one month spent in custody as one day in custody for one and a half days in a penal colony, as well as one year and two months spent under house arrest as two days under arrest for one day in a penal colony.

The measure of restraint for Nesterenko was changed to detention, and he was arrested in the courtroom.

To compensate for the material damage, Nesterenko's property remains under arrest - two apartments and two offices in Krasnodar, an apartment in Novokubansk, two cars, and a motorcycle.

Alexander Nesterenko was arrested in May 2025. The day before, he was dismissed due to "lack of results" in the construction sector. In June, the court placed him under house arrest. In early May 2026, his case was submitted for court consideration. Previously, the official was accused of abuse of office, later the investigation requalified the charge to three episodes of exceeding official powers during the major repairs of schools in the Kherson region. In court, he stated that he did not cause material damage.
