The death of the serviceman from Sisian has added to the non-combat losses of Armenia.
In one of the military units of Armenia, the body of serviceman Aik Movsisyan from Sisian was discovered today.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, the body of a serviceman was discovered today.
The 37-year-old serviceman died for reasons unrelated to service, an investigation has been initiated, the ministry reported today on its website Public Radio of Armenia.
According to preliminary reports, the serviceman committed suicide. Serviceman Aik Movsisyan from Sisian was the father of two children, and the family was expecting the birth of a third child. His wife works in a store, and local residents described their family positively. Some time ago, Aik Movsisyan's father and mother passed away, News.am reported today.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that earlier human rights defenders noted that the share of non-combat losses among Armenian military personnel has risen to 90%. They called on the Armenian authorities to pay more attention to the prevention of crimes and suicides in the army.
The increase in non-combat losses among servicemen has repeatedly raised questions for the Armenian authorities. The authorities and the ombudsman must address the issue of military deaths in peacetime, the parents of fallen soldiers stated back in November 2023.
In February 2022, participants in a discussion in Yerevan noted that the rise in non-combat losses in military units indicates systemic problems in the Armenian army. At the same time, they said, the authorities refuse to involve civilian activists in solving the problem.
