A resident of Ingushetia is accused of attacking police officers
The Supreme Court of Ingushetia refused to soften the measure of restraint for the resident of the republic, Musa Merzhoev, who was arrested after shooting at law enforcement officers and hitting a service vehicle.
The accused Merzhoev is 26 years old. The attack on the police officers occurred on the evening of July 20 in Malgobek.
According to the case materials, the police stopped Merzhoev's KIA Rio at the intersection of Oskanova and Physical Culture streets, asking the driver to present documents. In response, Merzhoev fired several times at the law enforcement officers with a weapon of an unspecified type that he had with him, after which he hit a police “Lada Granta” and fled the scene of the incident.
The investigation qualified Merzhoev's actions as non-life-threatening violence against representatives of the authorities (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code of Russia provides for up to five years of imprisonment). Musa Merzhoev was detained, and on July 21, the Malgobek City Court arrested him for two months.
Merzhoev's defense appealed the decision on his detention. The Supreme Court of Ingushetia, having considered the appeal, refused to soften the measure of restraint for the accused and left the ruling unchanged. Merzhoev will remain in the pre-trial detention center at least until September 21, the Unified Press Service of the courts of the republic reported on its Telegram channel.
The publication does not specify what arguments Merzhoev's lawyer presented in court. There is also no information on whether the man admitted his guilt. The “Caucasian Knot” currently does not have comments from Musa Merzhoev's defense regarding the court's decision.
