Vladikavkaz residents pointed out the unresolved issue with the landfill to the authorities.
The smell from the landfill is spreading across various districts of Vladikavkaz and is already noticeable in Gizeli, local residents complained on social media. They criticized officials for the prolonged resolution of the problem.
As "Caucasian Knot" reported, on August 11, residents of the BAM microdistrict in Vladikavkaz complained to the head of North Ossetia, Sergey Menyaylo, about unsanitary conditions due to the landfill.
One local resident filmed the landfill. The footage shows a highway, with the landfill located some distance away. The author of the video complained that the smell from the landfill spreads throughout the area and may reach Gizeli.
This video was published on August 16 by the Instagram*-public chp_vladikavkaz, which has about 557 thousand followers. As of 08:47 MSK on August 18, this video had received 410 likes and 70 comments.
Commenters, identifying themselves as local residents, complained that the unpleasant smell from the landfill is felt in different parts of Vladikavkaz and beyond the city. "The unpleasant smell is already in Gizeli," wrote __kadzaeva..albina.
"What a smell in the city center, it's hard to breathe. How much longer do we have to wait for disposal? It's all just talk, take action," urged kupalniki_vld15.
"For guests, this smell lasts five to ten minutes! Residents of BAM and nearby areas suffer from this smell every day," noted khachir18.
Commenters criticized officials for the prolonged resolution of the problem. "Everyone drives along the Gizeli highway. Don't the officials smell this? Doesn't Menyaylo feel it?" asked ironinusa.
"I wonder, will the head drive on this road?" asked agaeveldar5552018. "Finally, they paid attention!" wrote cz_75_shadow_.
Users also debated how to solve the landfill problem. "It's not profitable for them to move the landfill further from the city, it would be expensive to transport and the fees would increase two to three times. At least they could come out and tell people the truth," wrote nefor_mat1.
"But where to move it? There are villages everywhere, and people won't be happy with such a neighbor," noted do51334.
"In a civilized world, there are recycling facilities; unfortunately, we are still far from civilization," stated a user iron62522.
As of 08:47 MSK on August 18, there are no comments on the websites of the head of North Ossetia and the administration of Vladikavkaz regarding citizens' complaints about the landfill problem.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that residents of North Ossetia periodically complain about problems with garbage and landfills. For instance, on September 5, 2024, Vladikavkaz residents pointed out the lack of a systematic approach to garbage disposal in the city. On January 4, 2023, residents of the republic expressed outrage over illegal dumps in the Kurtatin Gorge and demanded increased control over compliance with sanitary regulations.
