The Communications Commission of Georgia fined the opposition TV channel TV Pirveli five thousand lari for bias and subjectivity in the presentation of material in news broadcasts.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 6, the Communications Commission of Georgia fined the channel "Post TV" for violating the law "On Broadcasting". This is the first case where the regulator imposed financial sanctions on a pro-government media outlet for failing to comply with impartiality standards. Meanwhile, critically inclined opposition media TV Pirveli and Formula have already been fined by the commission.
The National Communications Commission of Georgia imposed a fine on the opposition channel TV Pirveli for the second time, writes "Georgia-online" on August 15.
The reason for the imposition of fines were the news broadcasts on July 27 and 28, in which, according to the commission members, the channel's journalists violated the legislative requirement for accuracy and objectivity in presenting facts and expressed personal opinions about the events. Complaints arose, in particular, regarding phrases like "started a large-scale hunt" and "agency for scrolling and screenshots". This was how the new Ministry of Internal Affairs unit for combating hate speech was referred to in the news broadcasts. Additionally, the commission members were outraged by phrases like "Chechen-style squad", "hunt for activists", and "the police lost their nerves". The amount of the fine was five thousand lari.
This violation became the third for TV Pirveli. In the first case, the channel received a written warning, and in the second, it was fined 2,500 lari. At the same time, the commission claims that this time they were entitled to impose a fine of one percent of the media's annual income, but decided to apply the minimum sanction provided by law.
