Kaspiysk residents urged the authorities to solve the garbage problem on the beaches.

A resident of Kaspiysk filmed a pile of garbage left by vacationers on the beach. Other residents, commenting on her video on social media, urged the authorities to install cameras and large trash bins on the coast, to fine violators, and to strengthen control over the condition of the beaches.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Dagestan and tourists have repeatedly complained about the condition of the beaches in the republic. For instance, in June 2023, residents of the Karabudakhkent district independently cleaned the coast of the Caspian Sea after a video was published showing piles of waste.

One local resident filmed the garbage left on the beach in the Mayak area of Kaspiysk. According to her, the day before, people who arrived in a motorhome were resting in that spot.

"People, what are you doing? What is this? Shameless!" – said the author of the video, published on the night of August 9 on the Instagram*-page tut.dagestan, which has about 1.6 million followers. As of 07:55 MSK on August 9, this post had received 1,362 likes and 161 comments.

Social media users condemned the vacationers who leave waste on the coast. Many commentators pointed out that the residents themselves are the cause of the beach pollution.

"Vacationers think that someone is obliged to clean up the garbage they leave behind," wrote muradova_store. She noted that a similar situation has arisen not only in Kaspiysk but also in Izberbash.

"Then they say that the city is drowning in garbage. Of course, it is drowning when you are the cause of this garbage," wrote dr.kambulatov01.

A similar problem exists on other beaches, participants in the discussion pointed out. For several Saturdays in a row, volunteers cleaned the "Lunar Shore" beach, where they found plastic bottles, cans, cups, clothes, and diapers, reported aiza__1985_.

Garbage not only remains on the coast but also ends up in the Caspian Sea, noted human05ru. According to her, wet wipes and other waste are floating in the water near Makhachkala.

Visitors to the Eltav forest also do not clean up after picnics, reported zayazaya_0711.

To identify violators on the beaches, commentators suggested installing cameras.

"There are a million cameras along the highway, fine them for garbage too," demanded user mio_butik.

Those who left the garbage can be found through camera recordings and the number of the motorhome, users abdulkadirov_96 and u.nuagge pointed out. Other commentators also called for punishing violators.

"It is necessary to determine who is responsible for this section of the coast and controls vehicle access to the beach," noted nochnoy_strannik_05.

The reason for the accumulation of waste is the lack of large trash bins, suggested zali0486. However, user aishat__67 countered that some vacationers throw garbage in the bushes even when containers are nearby.

"The bins are nearby, they don’t carry it, they throw it in the bushes, thinking someone should collect it for them," she wrote.

As of 07:55 MSK on August 9, there are no comments on the website of the Kaspiysk administration regarding the residents' call to solve the garbage problem on the beaches.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in July 2023, residents of Dagestan called the beaches and water in the Caspian Sea dirty. According to Rospotrebnadzor, that season Derbent was the only coastal city in the republic where the sea water met sanitary standards. Despite warnings about the swimming ban, tourists continued to relax on the city beaches of Makhachkala and Kaspiysk.

In 2018, Rospotrebnadzor banned swimming at six beaches in Makhachkala. A third of the water samples tested did not meet microbiological standards, and 90% did not meet sanitary-chemical standards. The agency noted that the swimming ban in the sea in Makhachkala was imposed annually.
