The chairman of the Salyan district branch of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (PNFA), Alizamin Salaev, was released from the correctional facility on August 7 after his sentence was reduced as part of an amnesty. The politician stated his intention to continue the fight for democratic changes and the release of political prisoners.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on May 22, 2023, the court sentenced the head of the Salyan district branch of the PNFA, Alizamin Salaev, to four years in prison, finding him guilty of assaulting a passerby. Salaev himself claimed that he was attacked by a person armed with a knife. The defense appealed the verdict, but the appellate court upheld it.
On December 15, 2025, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, submitted an Amnesty Act to parliament. The initiative is timed to coincide with the declared "Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty" in Azerbaijan in 2025 and the restoration of the country's sovereignty over its entire territory, the authorities stated. Parliament adopted the relevant law. More than 18,000 people in Azerbaijan were released from further serving their sentences as part of the amnesty, the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan reported on April 3. The amnesty only affected those political prisoners whose sentences were already approaching their end, human rights defenders noted.

As explained to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" by lawyer Nemat Kerimli, Salaev fell under the amnesty provision, which reduced his prison sentence by 6 months. Thus, Salaev's prison term was reduced from 4 years to 3.5 years, which expired on August 7.
Alizamin Salaev himself told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" that he is determined to continue the political struggle for democratic changes in Azerbaijan.
"Of course, we will continue the fight for the release of political prisoners, PNFA leader Ali Kerimli, politician Tofiq Yagublu, Sevinc Vagifgizi, and other journalists," Salaev stated.
