The authorities have recognized at least 9550 fighters from southern Russia as killed in the military operation.
At least 4755 fighters from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4795 military personnel from the Southern Federal District have been officially recognized as killed in the special operation in Ukraine.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", as of July 27, the authorities and security forces have officially recognized at least 9500 military personnel from the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD) as killed during the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. The highest number of military casualties has been from Dagestan.
Since the beginning of the SMO in Ukraine, representatives of the authorities and security forces have officially recognized at least 9550 fighters from the southern regions of Russia and the republics of the North Caucasus as killed.
According to the latest official data, at least 4755 fighters from the North Caucasus Federal District have been killed during the military operation.
The highest number of casualties among natives of the NCFD still comes from Dagestan – 2061 fighters. The deaths of 969 military personnel from the Stavropol Krai, 589 from North Ossetia, 466 from Kabardino-Balkaria, 265 from Chechnya, 205 from Ingushetia, and 200 from Karachay-Cherkessia have been confirmed.
In the SFD, 4795 military personnel have been officially recognized as killed during the special operation. The highest number of casualties is from the Volgograd region – 1821. The deaths of 961 military personnel from the Rostov region, 873 from the Krasnodar Krai, 754 from the Astrakhan region, 245 from Kalmykia, and 141 from Adygea have also been confirmed.
"Caucasian Knot" has also reported that the real losses among military personnel from the North Caucasus may significantly exceed the official figures. This applies to all regions of the NCFD, but is especially relevant for Chechnya. In February 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov urged regional leaders not to disclose the numbers of the dead.
It should be noted that the first representative of the authorities to report that a Russian soldier was killed in the SMO zone was the former head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov. On February 26, 2022, he reported that officer Nurmagomed Gadzhimagomedov was killed in Ukraine.
