The founder of the project "Caucasus Without a Mother" reported threats and pressure.

The founder of the human rights project "Caucasus Without a Mother" Lydia Mikhalchenko reported threats and insults against its employees, as well as the blocking of the project's page on social media.

According to one of the employees of the human rights project "Caucasus Without a Mother", the project's account on Instagram* was attacked and blocked.

"Our main account heda_media on Instagram* was attacked. We are working on its restoration," he told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

The main platform of the project on Instagram* has temporarily become the account heda_eng, which was previously used for publications in English.

The project "Caucasus Without a Mother" was created six years ago to protect the rights of women in the North Caucasus, primarily their maternal rights, its founder Lydia Mikhalchenko said in a video address published on August 3 in the project's Telegram channel.

She linked the threats and the blocking of the page on Instagram* to the project's activities. "Now because of this, they want to silence us. We are being threatened, insulted, and our main page has been blocked," said the human rights activist.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the situation with women's rights remains relevant in the southern regions of Russia. Thus, on July 28, journalist Ksenia Sobchak recorded a video address to the head of North Ossetia Sergey Menyaylo, demanding a response to calls from members of the "Caucasian Community" for violence against women.

The reason for the address was a video of a resident of Beslan, who danced in front of the camera in a shirt without a bra. The administrator of the Telegram channel "Caucasian Community" accused her of insulting traditions, threatened to make the whole family apologize, and published the girl's home address, Sobchak reported on July 26 in her Telegram channel "Bloody Lady".

In February 2025, Ruslan Umaev, accused of murdering his daughter-in-law Kristina Kokova, went to the military operation zone in Ukraine. According to human rights defenders, Umaev confessed to the murder, stating that he strangled Kokova and burned her body because she allegedly "behaved immorally", and disposed of the remains in the river.

Kristina Kokova, a native of Lobnya in the Moscow region, married Akhmed Umaev in 2020 and after moving to Chechnya gave birth to a daughter. She complained about pressure from her mother-in-law and physical violence from her husband. After the divorce, Kokova returned to her mother, but relatives of her ex-husband constantly took the child back to Chechnya. Father-in-law Ruslan Umaev controlled the actions of his former daughter-in-law and threatened to deprive her of the opportunity to communicate with her daughter, Kokova's mother Anastasia reported.

Earlier, the story of the death of Madina Umaeva from Gudermes caused a wide public resonance in Chechnya. She died on June 12, 2020, in her husband's house and was buried at night. Umaeva's husband claimed that she fell down the stairs during an epileptic seizure. However, the woman's relatives reported that there were frequent quarrels between the spouses.

Umaeva's body was exhumed on June 20, 2020. Three days later, Ramzan Kadyrov intervened in the situation, stating that the woman's relatives had no evidence of her husband's guilt. After that, Umaeva's mother apologized for her words about her daughter's violent death.
