Three residents of Ingushetia have been detained for the murder of a resident of Sunzha, reported the Investigative Committee. The detainees claim that the man cast a spell on the brother of one of them, a source reported.

According to the investigation, on July 29, 2026, unidentified individuals broke into a house in the city of Sunzha, where one of the suspects fired at least three shots from a firearm at a 52-year-old local resident. According to "Baza," the reason for the murder was a ritual for a curse. One of the men believed that his neighbor had intentionally bewitched his brother and decided to act radically — to lift the "curse" by killing the "sorcerer." He persuaded two friends to join him in the act. One acted as the driver, while the second went along with the perpetrator of the crime. Wearing masks, they burst into the house of the 52-year-old man and shot him, the publication writes.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in February 2021, a woman and a man were beaten, and their car was shot at in Magas. The victims are a fortune-teller who came from another country and her husband, a source reported. He suggested that members of the so-called public movement against witchcraft, which was created in the republic analogously to the well-known youth public movement against drug distribution "Anti-Lirika," may be involved in the incident.
