A demining participant in Karabakh was blown up by a mine.
An employee of a private company involved in humanitarian demining operations, Akhad Akhadov, was blown up by an anti-personnel mine, suffering multiple shrapnel wounds.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on May 11, two soldiers of the Azerbaijani army were blown up by a mine in the Kelbajar region and were hospitalized with injuries. The villages of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, to which residents are returning, have been completely cleared of mines, but dangerous zones remain outside populated areas, where violations of safety rules lead to incidents. Complete demining of the former conflict zone may take many years, specialists indicate. The mine danger remains one of the main problems in Karabakh, and Armenian troops, who mined the territories, are responsible for the injuries sustained by displaced persons after explosions, users with Azerbaijani surnames pointed out. Mines protected the civilians of Nagorno-Karabakh, users with Armenian surnames countered. At the same time, all participants in the dispute agreed on the necessity of adhering to safety rules outside settlements.
In the zone of the former Karabakh conflict, security forces, sapper units, and local residents are periodically blown up by mines. Since November 2020, when the 44-day war in Karabakh ended, until the end of December 2025, in Azerbaijan 415 people have become victims of mines and unexploded ordnance. Of these, 71 died, and another 344 were injured.
Today, an employee of one of the private companies involved in humanitarian demining operations, Akhadov Akhad Sarvan oglu, born in 1985, was blown up by an anti-personnel mine while performing his official duties.
The injured person received necessary medical assistance and was subsequently evacuated to one of the private medical institutions in Baku for specialized medical care. He was diagnosed with multiple shrapnel wounds to various parts of his body, as well as a shrapnel wound to the lower third of his left thigh, reports Report.
Let us remind you that a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" talked to residents of the villages in Karabakh, who reported that they were thoroughly instructed about the ongoing mine threat in the region. Residents of the villages of Khydyrly, Saryjaly, and Khorovlu stated that even before moving, they underwent mandatory mine safety training, and upon arrival, they were met by employees of ANAMA - the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action, police representatives, and local authorities.
Local residents also told the "Caucasian Knot" that they pay special attention to children and constantly remind them not to enter dangerous areas. At the same time, villagers acknowledge that many uncleared areas remain in the region near the former front line and destroyed settlements. According to residents, some explosions occur after people ignore warnings, enter closed zones, or attempt to cross barriers.
The head of one of the NGOs involved in educational projects in Karabakh confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" that hundreds of kilometers along the former line of contact remain potentially dangerous. The head of the NGO "Military Lawyers" Telman Abilov also noted that complete demining of Karabakh may take many years.
