The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Aslan Erkenov, a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia, to eight years, finding him guilty of calls for terrorism, possession of an explosive device, and extremism.
The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Aslan Erkenov, a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia, guilty of public calls for terrorism, illegal possession of an explosive device, and participation in the activities of an extremist organization (part 1 of article 205.2, part 1 of article 222.1, and part 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the investigation, from 2018 to 2022, a cell of the banned extremist religious organization "At-Takfir wal-Hijra" was created in the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia. The convicted joined it in February 2020. From February of that year until February 2021, he participated in meetings of the cell members and studied extremist literature, according to a statement published on July 31 on the court's website.
In April 2023, while in Istanbul, Erkenov posted two comments on social media justifying the activities of the "Islamic State" (recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia).
In addition, in January 2021, in the village of Pravokubansky, he accepted a homemade explosive device for storage and kept it until April 2025, when it was seized by law enforcement officers.
The court sentenced Erkenov to eight years in a general regime colony and a fine of 15,000 rubles.
Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in early July, 60 people were arrested in Karachay-Cherkessia, whom law enforcement considers members of an underground cell of a banned international religious extremist organization.
