A resident of Kuban received a sentence in a treason case.

The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Novorossiysk resident Yevgeny Chernyshov to a long prison term, finding him guilty of treason and participation in a terrorist organization.

In addition to participation in a terrorist organization (part 205.5 of the Criminal Code of Russia) and treason (article 275 of the Criminal Code), Chernyshov was charged with propaganda of terrorism via the internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). This charge carries a sentence of five to seven years in prison, participation in a terrorist organization - from 10 to 20 years, and treason - from 12 to 20 years.

According to the prosecution's version, on March 15 and 26, 2024, while in Novorossiysk, Chernyshov left several comments online about the "Legion of Freedom of Russia"* and the "Russian Volunteer Corps"*. He positively assessed the actions of these banned organizations, recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation, and called on others to join the RDK*.

A year later, between April 3 and May 6, 2025, Chernyshov entered into correspondence with a person who introduced himself as a member of the LSR*. The prosecution claims that he agreed to provide assistance and support to this organization and Ukraine as a whole, directed against the security of the Russian Federation.

The court established that on May 4, 2025, Yevgeny Chernyshov took photographs of the Novorossiysk naval base of the Black Sea Fleet of the Navy, the number and location of military vessels, and on May 6 of the same year, transmitted the collected information to "employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine." "During the court session, Chernyshov fully admitted his guilt," the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported today.

The court sentenced Chernyshov to 22 years in a strict regime with the first three years to be served in prison. In addition, he is required to pay a fine of 150,000 rubles. The Caucasian Knot currently has no comments from Yevgeny Chernyshov or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal the verdict.

Despite the sentence under the "terrorist" articles, as of 19:45 Moscow time today, Chernyshov's name is not listed in the register of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring. Chernyshov is a native of Ukraine, he is 28 years old, and law enforcement detained him in Novorossiysk on May 20, 2025, and the next day he was placed in a pre-trial detention center, as indicated on the website of the human rights project Enbv.org.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that for communicating with members of the RDK* and carrying out their tasks, Kuban resident Miloslav Oleinik was sentenced to 20 years in prison under articles on treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.
