The number of deceased climbers on Elbrus has increased.

Rescuers found three deceased climbers from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the saddle of Elbrus, as well as one survivor. They are members of a group, two of whom died the day before. In addition, another climber died on Elbrus, who was climbing with a partner; his colleague was rescued.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on the night of July 25 to 26, two climbers died during the ascent of Elbrus.

The number of climbers from Bosnia and Herzegovina who died in the saddle of Mount Elbrus has increased to five, writes "Interfax" on July 26, citing the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kabardino-Balkaria.

According to the agency, rescuers who went to search for the climbers found two of them alive in the morning of July 26. Later, they discovered the bodies of three more deceased climbers.

The investigation believes that during the ascent, the weather deteriorated sharply, causing the group of climbers to stray from the route. One of them descended from the mountain and reported that two participants in the ascent had died. Their bodies were evacuated and handed over to law enforcement agencies. Then rescuers found the bodies of three more climbers and one survivor. A criminal case has been initiated under the article on causing death by negligence to two or more persons (part 3 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), informs "Kommersant".

In the evening of July 26, another climber died on Elbrus; his partner was evacuated. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the climbers requested help while at an altitude of 5,300 meters. Rescuers evacuated a climber from the Tula region; due to a snowstorm and gusty winds, the body of his partner remains in the mountains for now.

Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that on July 11, a 48-year-old climber from Malaysia felt unwell on Elbrus; he died. The climber was part of an unregistered group with two guides.

Elbrus is a two-peaked cone of an extinct volcano, with both peaks exceeding 5.6 kilometers in height, according to the "Caucasian Knot" reference "Elbrus - the Patriarch of the Caucasus Mountains".
