Law enforcement detained 10 people on the 606th day of protests in Tbilisi.
Ten people holding posters with offensive inscriptions against Bidzina Ivanishvili were detained on the 606th day of protests near the Tbilisi City Hall. According to the police, they were issued protocols under administrative articles for petty hooliganism and disobedience to lawful demands of law enforcement officers.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the Saturday march on July 25 as part of pro-European protests took a new route due to the repair of Rustaveli Avenue. Participants of the action demand the appointment of new parliamentary elections, the return to the path of Georgia's Euro-integration, and the release of those detained during the protests.
On August 16, 2025, activists Tornike Toskua and Mindia Shervashidze were detained on charges of group violence. Immediately after the detention, Toskua declared a hunger strike. On September 8, Tornike Toskua ended the hunger strike, citing health reasons. On April 1, they were sentenced to one year in prison, on July 1, the appellate court mitigated the sentences, and the activists were released.
Today, on the 606th day of protests, the action started at the Parliament of Georgia, where supporters of the country's Euro-integration gather every evening.
However, it later became known that activist Tornike Toskua was detained near the City Hall, holding a poster with offensive content directed at the founder of the "Georgian Dream" Bidzina Ivanishvili. Police officers approached him, put him in a patrol car, and took him away, reports Publika.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, patrol police detained a total of 10 people in the area of the Tbilisi City Council.
"[They] held offensive posters in a public place. In addition, they uttered offensive phrases, violated public order, and resisted law enforcement officers," the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated. According to the agency, the detentions were made based on articles 166 (petty hooliganism) and 173 (disobedience to a lawful demand of a police officer) of the Administrative Code.
According to Netgazeti, those detained include Tornike Toskua, Mariam Mekhanceishvili, Ia Melitauri, Nato Bolkvadze, Sandro Sekhnishvili, Lasha Dgebuadze, Vaso Beridze, Nini Nachkhebia, Marine Nanava, Tornike Tikaradze, and Shako Bagdoshvili.
After the information about the detentions, protesters moved from the Parliament to the Tbilisi Sakrebulo building in Freedom Square, holding banners with the same inscription that Toskua had before his detention, and chanting: "Solidarity with Tornike Toskua, Giorgi Akhobadze, and Vakho Sanaya," reports Tbilisi Life.
As seen in the video published by the founder of OC Media, journalist Mariam Nikuradze, police used force during the detentions.
