The parties of South Ossetia have announced the nomination of candidates for the presidency.

Six more meetings are scheduled for the nomination of candidates for the presidency of South Ossetia. The meeting of the initiative group to nominate Oleg Kozaev as a presidential candidate did not take place for the second time.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the acting president of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov, has already submitted documents to the Central Election Commission, after which he secured support from Putin. The "Iry Farn" party nominated Hocha Chochiev as a presidential candidate. Another meeting for the nomination of a presidential candidate did not take place.

After a meeting with Vladimir Putin on June 22, Alan Gagloev was appointed his advisor and announced his resignation as president of South Ossetia. The head of the republic's government, Marat Kambolov, has been appointed as the acting president of South Ossetia. Early presidential elections in South Ossetia are scheduled for September 18. During Gagloev's presidency, the degradation of political and social institutions continued in South Ossetia, and the outflow of the population from the republic reached such proportions that a new presidential candidate was sent from outside, analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" stated.

In Tskhinval, the meeting of the initiative group to nominate Oleg Kozaev as a presidential candidate has been postponed for the second time. The meeting was originally scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 in the city House of Culture (the former Sovprof building). However, as Oleg Kozaev himself reported to "Res", it did not take place for technical reasons, according to IA "Res".

"For technical reasons, we are forced to postpone the meeting. We will notify the Central Election Commission of the new date and time," Kozaev commented on the situation.

According to the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia, a congress of the "Patriots of Alania" party is scheduled for July 27, the congress of the "UNITY" party is to take place on July 29, the congress of the "Development Party", the meeting of the initiative group to nominate Murat Valiev, the congress of the Socialist Party "Unity of the People", and the meeting of the initiative group to nominate Eduard Gabaraev.

"United Ossetia" has refused independent nomination and will support Marat Kambolov, reported "Sapa Tskhinval" on July 6.

The Republican political party "United Ossetia" officially announced that it will not nominate its own candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in South Ossetia. The party leadership decided to join the initiative group to support Marat Kambolov. The "Nykhas" party and the Communist Party also joined the initiative group to nominate Kambolov.

It should be noted that according to the Constitution of South Ossetia, after the official departure of the current president, the next elections for the leader of the republic must take place within three months – no later than September 21, 2026. "The presidential elections of the Republic of South Ossetia must take place no later than 90 days from the date of the early termination of the powers of the former head of state," states the text of the Constitution of South Ossetia*, posted on the website of the republican parliament.
