Nalchik residents cleaned up the garbage by the Nalchik River themselves.
Residents of Nalchik collected several bags of garbage in the area adjacent to the river of the same name. Social media users criticized officials for the lack of control while commenting on a post about this and suggested fining those who litter.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Kabardino-Balkaria periodically complain about the garbage problem. For instance, at the end of June, residents of Prohladny reported that garbage from some waste collection sites had not been removed for months. According to them, garbage had not been removed at the intersection of Communist Street and Red Lane since early March and at least until June 27.
One Nalchik resident expressed her outrage about the garbage along the Nalchik River. Together with acquaintances, they cleaned the area around the river, collecting several bags of garbage. The story of the Nalchik resident was published by the Instagram public chp.nalchik.
"We walked along the river for about 10 meters and collected five large bags of garbage. I would like to appeal to those who relax there. Keep the city and nature clean," – the words of a Nalchik resident are quoted in the post.
A video is attached to the publication, showing plastic bags lying on the ground. The author of the video clarified that the footage shows the area by the Nalchik River.
This post in the Instagram public chp.nalchik, which has about 516 thousand followers, had received 431 likes and 210 comments by 07:50 MSK on July 25. Some users criticized the officials.
"I write for the thousandth time: we have many local police officers – make them take note of one person's passport from those relaxing in nature during the summer season, and if there is garbage and bottles left, issue a fine," – suggested rakhimatkarazhaeva.
"Fines should be imposed, and instead of strolling in the park, the police should walk along the riverbed," – wrote alim_8752.
"Unfortunately, shaming people is useless. Only strict sanctions will work: either an eco-patrol or cameras on every tree – otherwise, it seems, we can't deal with our people," – believes asya_592.
Other participants in the discussion linked the problem to the lack of garbage containers and the work of city services.
"If garbage bins were placed everywhere, there wouldn't be such problems. I also cleaned up, and had to take it to the city to throw it in containers. Very inconvenient," – emphasized raziikshogenova.
"At least a couple of bins should be placed by the river. Not a single garbage bin along the entire river," – stated in a comment by nalchik000007.
Recall that since May 15, a new regional operator for garbage collection, "Ecotekhprom", has been operating in Kabardino-Balkaria. However, residents of the republic, who previously reported problems with garbage collection, told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" that there has not been a significant improvement in the situation since the new operator started working yet. The previous operator, LLC "Ekologistika", effectively went bankrupt, noted "Kommersant" on June 10.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that Nalchik residents regularly complain about the state of urban infrastructure and buildings. For instance, on June 16, residents of an emergency dormitory in Nalchik asked the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, to intervene in the situation with resettlement. Bastrykin requested a report on the criminal case regarding the delays in resettling the residents of this building.
