The Abkhazian Government Communications Agency reported the repulsion of a large-scale cyberattack on state and tourism portals. The attackers, according to the agency, aimed to undermine the image of Abkhazia.
According to APS, the websites of ministries and departments, state information resources, tourism portals, booking services, and the websites of major resort complexes were targeted in the attack.
"The attackers used DDoS attacks, directing millions of false requests per second to the servers. In addition, attempts at defacement - replacing legitimate information with fake news - were recorded on some resources," the agency's message states, which was quoted by Interfax on July 20.
The main blow was dealt to the only national hosting center of APS, where most of Abkhazia's official resources are located. The agency noted that work to restore normal operations is ongoing, the attack was conducted from several geographical points simultaneously, and the main goal of the attackers was to "undermine the image of the state," informs "Apsadgyl-Info".
