The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced two residents of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Chukhno and Pavel Hortenko, to long terms, finding them guilty of preparing a terrorist act on the railway.

According to the court, in 2022, Chukhno joined a terrorist community created in Ukraine and recruited Hortenko through persuasion and threats.

They mined the railway tracks in the Zaporizhzhia region with the aim of blowing up a train carrying cargo for the Russian Armed Forces, but it turned out that the tracks were not in use, and the terrorist act did not take place. In addition, Chukhno illegally stored weapons, ammunition, and an explosive device in his hideout, writes Interfax on July 14.

Depending on the degree of participation and guilt, the court found the defendants guilty under part 2 of article 205.4 (participation in a terrorist community), part 3 of article 30 - parts 1 and 2 of article 361 (attempt to commit an act of international terrorism), part 4 of article 222.1 (illegal trafficking in explosives and explosive devices by an organized group), part 1 of article 222 (illegal trafficking in weapons and ammunition), part 1 of article 222.1 (illegal trafficking in explosives and explosive devices) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Chukhno was sentenced to 20 years in a strict regime colony with the first five years in prison, as well as a fine of 750,000 rubles, while Hortenko was sentenced to 15 years in a strict regime colony with the first five years in prison and a fine of 600,000 rubles.

Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that at the end of June, the court sentenced Ilya Saprunov, a resident of Kropotkin, to a long term for preparing a terrorist act on the railway.
