Severe sentences have been requested for the defendants in the case of the hostage-taking in the Rostov detention center.

From 28 to 30 years of imprisonment was demanded by the representative of the prosecution for the defendants in the case of the hostage-taking in the detention center of Rostov-on-Don in the summer of 2024.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", at the session of the Southern District Military Court in July 2025, four out of five defendants in the hostage-taking case in the Rostov detention center pleaded guilty, while one defendant partially admitted guilt. The survivor of the assault, Daniil Kamnev, detained after the assault, as well as Ramzan Albekov, Magomed Alkhanov, and Adam Kozdoev, are accused of attempting to escape from custody, hostage-taking, disorganization of the activities of the isolation facility, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, attempted terrorism, and preparation for participation in an illegal armed formation.

On June 16, 2024, inmates of the Rostov detention center took two staff members hostage. They identified themselves as members of the "Islamic State"*, demanded a car, weapons, and the opportunity to leave the detention center. Security forces conducted an assault, the hostage-takers were killed, and the hostages were freed. "Caucasian Knot" prepared a report "Hostage-taking in the Rostov detention center" with a timeline of these events.

The prosecutor, speaking at the session of the Southern District Military Court on July 14, requested long sentences for all five defendants in the hostage-taking case in the Rostov detention center.

The prosecutor requested to sentence Daniil Kamnev, Malik Gandaloev, and Adam Kozdoev to 30 years in prison, while Ramzan Albekov and Magomed Alkhanov to 28 years, as reported by Interfax-South, citing the court's press service.

According to the investigation, the defendants began planning the escape in April 2024. Each participant had their own task: in particular, it was planned to record and distribute a video with the symbols of the "Islamic State"*, as well as to set the detention center on fire.

The investigation believes that in the event of a successful escape, they intended to travel to Ingushetia and carry out a series of terrorist attacks there. A total of ten detainees were planned to participate in the escape from Detention Center-1, but five of them were killed during the assault, TASS notes.

Earlier, the Southern District Military Court issued guilty verdicts against two members of the group, Kamnev and Gandaloev, for previously committed terrorist-related crimes, for which they were in the detention center.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the criminal case regarding the preparation of a terrorist act in Ingushetia against the native of Chechnya, Magomed Alkhanov, came as a surprise to his wife. Alkhanov had previously been convicted in a case involving an attack on Pskov paratroopers.
