The imprisoned Azerbaijani scientist Samadov has faced health problems.

The health condition of Azerbaijani researcher Bakhruz Samadov, who is in custody, has worsened — he has started to see worse. According to his lawyer, he is not provided with the necessary examination and treatment in the conditions of detention in the covered section of the Umbak Prison Complex.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the cassation appeal against the sentence of researcher Bakhruz Samadov has been left unsatisfied by the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan. The political scientist's defense intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

29-year-old political scientist and doctoral student at Charles University in the Czech Republic Bakhruz Samadov was sentenced by a court in Baku to 15 years in prison on charges of treason. The appellate court upheld the sentence. Samadov was detained on August 21, 2024, when he came to Azerbaijan for vacation. According to the investigation, he wrote and translated articles at the request of representatives of Armenia. The accusation was based on Bakhruz Samadov's correspondence with three women from Armenia. Samadov categorically rejected the charge of treason. He is known for his criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities, which he expressed in foreign publications. The defense believes that the reason for his arrest was his "anti-war views".

The researcher and anti-war activist Bakhruz Samadov, who is held in the covered part of the Umbak Prison Complex, has experienced weakened vision, reported his friend and like-minded person Amrah Takhmazov.

“Recently, Bakhruz was visited by lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova. Bakhruz already had vision problems, and now they have worsened. Bakhruz has started to see very poorly. Doctors had previously recommended that he look into the distance more often to maintain his vision. However, he is currently held in a completely closed space. He can only look at the sky when he is taken outside for a very short time. For the rest of the time, he is deprived of the opportunity to look into the distance,” Amrah told a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot".

At the same time, according to him, the young man is not examined and is not provided with medical assistance and treatment.

The activist emphasized that the only relative of Samadov is his 83-year-old grandmother Zibeyda Osmanova. “But she has been often ill lately,” Amrah said.

Lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova confirmed Amrah's words about the deterioration of Samadov's vision and the lack of medical assistance for him.

It should be noted that at the end of March, Samadov informed friends that he is being held in a cramped solitary cell and is practically deprived of walks, he is not receiving medications and has been deprived of sources of information. In April, Samadov's fiancée, a U.S. citizen, appealed to the President of Azerbaijan asking for assistance in his release.
