The quality of sand in Anapa has sparked a discussion against the backdrop of reports about the opening of new beaches.
83 beaches are open, another 14 are undergoing inspection, reported the government of Russia. The sand used to cover the beaches has compacted and is unsuitable for recreation, noted social media users. Other commentators expressed hope that the imported sand would gradually be washed away by the sea.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the authorities reported the opening of 75 beaches in Anapa, with another 11 undergoing inspections. Against the backdrop of reports about the opening of beaches, silence remains regarding the work on pumping out fuel oil from the sunken tankers, users noted on July 6. Neither the operational headquarters of Kuban nor the government commission for eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation provides information on the progress of the fuel oil pumping work. Satellite monitoring showed a leak from one of the sunken tankers.
The resort season in Anapa has opened against a sharp contrast in the state of the coastline. Some beaches are open and deemed safe, while other areas are closed due to erosion, unstable ground, and environmental risks. A report from "Caucasian Knot" titled "Beaches of Anapa: open and dangerous zones" explains which beaches are ready for visitors and which pose dangers.
Permits for the opening of the beach season have already been received by 83 beaches in Anapa, the government of Russia reported today following a meeting of the commission for eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation caused by the sinking of tankers in the Kerch Strait.
"The additional layer of clean sand is being completed on the beaches of Anapa affected by fuel oil. The work is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor. Permits have already been received by 83 beaches. Another 14 are undergoing examination," the agency reported.
As before, the message does not mention the work on pumping out fuel oil from the sunken tankers.
Bloggers Yuri Ozarovsky published a video from the "Riviera" beach. "The imported sand has compacted. By the end of the season, it will be possible to lay asphalt," he quotes a subscriber's message.

Some users expressed hope that the sea would manage to wash away the new sand from the beaches.
"The sea will do its job: it will nourish, wash away, and adapt. This sand is the best replacement for the old one; to be honest, I expected a much worse result, but I am pleasantly surprised, my child didn't notice the difference at all," commented Baby Miu-Miu.
"We are waiting for it to be washed away by storms. The waves and wind will gradually sort the sand and carry away the clay particles. By next year, the difference should be noticeable," writes Anna K.
Other users doubted this.
"How can the sea wash it away if it cannot be scraped off?" objected Oksana Ognevchuk.
"Even gradually, it could take centuries. And you want a miracle next year. They piled a meter thick of this clay up to the dunes; no wind or waves will turn it into the unique quartz sand buried under this layer of misunderstanding?" believes Yulia I.
"How can clay at such a distance from the sea be washed away, and how can the wind mix it?" asked Tatiana.
On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Additionally, there was a spill of petroleum products, leading to catastrophic environmental consequences, according to a report from "Caucasian Knot" titled "Fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait".
Materials on the consequences of the fuel oil spill have been collected by "Caucasian Knot" on the page "Ecological disaster in Kuban".
