The case of political scientist Serenko has reached the court in Volgograd.
The prosecutor's office approved the indictment in the case of political scientist and former deputy of the Volgograd city council Mikhail Serenko, who was charged with public justification of Nazism and extortion.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in mid-September 2025, the court in Volgograd extended the detention of political scientist Mikhail Serenko, during the hearing information was presented about 12 criminal cases against him.
Political scientist, former deputy of the Volgograd city council Mikhail Serenko was detained on July 22 in a case of public justification of Nazism and extortion. On July 24, the court arrested him until September 18. Serenko has never been an opposition figure and did not criticize the government, noted a Volgograd journalist. After the arrest, a deputy of the Volgograd regional council filed a complaint against Serenko, accusing him of defamation, and the military considered one of the publications in the Telegram channel, which the investigation names Serenko as the author, to be discrediting the armed forces. The investigation initiated a case against Serenko for the distribution of pornography. On August 12, it became known that a case of defamation had been initiated against Serenko.
The prosecutor's office of the Volgograd region submitted to the court the case of Telegram channel administrator "Island of Freedom" Mikhail Serenko with an indictment, reports the publication "Height 102".
According to the investigation, the accused, being an administrator, moderator, and author of an "anonymous channel" in the messenger, together with an acquaintance blogger extorted 6 million rubles from the head of a commercial organization, threatening to disseminate defamatory information in case of refusal. Subsequently, the head of the organization transferred the demanded amount, informs the prosecutor's office of the Volgograd region.
In addition, the accused repeatedly published materials containing insults against representatives of the authorities and the public. Regarding a number of victims, he spread knowingly false information about their commission of crimes against sexual inviolability and sexual freedom.
In one case, the accused forced an acquaintance to engage in sexual acts, threatening to disseminate compromising information. After receiving a refusal, Serenko posted defamatory materials about the victim and her relatives on the internet channel.
The investigation claims that the accused also published pornographic materials in the public domain. The channel's author also posted texts on his internet resource, the content of which has signs of rehabilitation of Nazism.
Serenko is charged with defamation, insulting a representative of the authorities, extortion, rehabilitation of Nazism, coercion to sexual acts, illegal production and circulation of pornographic materials. Mikhail Serenko fully admitted his guilt. The criminal case has been sent by the regional prosecutor's office for substantive consideration in the Volgograd regional court.
"The accused will await trial while in custody. The sanctions for the charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison," the supervisory agency's message states.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Central District Court of Volgograd kept blogger Alexey Ulyanov, accused of extortion, in custody until November 29.
