The lawyer met with the prisoner in solitary confinement, Nijdad Ibrahim.
The activist Nijdad Ibrahim's defender managed to meet with him in the colony 26 days after he stopped communicating with his family. Ibrahim stated that he did not violate any rules and does not know the reasons for his placement in solitary confinement.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in July 2025, a court in Baku sentenced activist Nijdad Ibrahim to 6.5 years in prison. He did not plead guilty, and the defense appealed the verdict. On October 6, 2025, the appellate court upheld the sentence. On July 1, the activist's wife, Parvin Ibrahim, stated that the activist had not been in contact with his family for more than 25 days now. The defense managed to confirm the transfer of the activist to solitary confinement, but the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan did not clarify the reasons for the punishment.
On September 6, 2024, border guards did not allow the critic of the authorities, Nijdad Ibrahim, to leave Azerbaijan, citing a police ban. After publicly criticizing the police for the unjustified travel ban, Ibrahim faced criminal prosecution: he was charged with intentionally causing serious harm to health in a dangerous manner out of hooligan motives and hooliganism with the use of weapons, which carry a sentence of up to 11 years in prison. Ibrahim denies all charges and believes he is being persecuted for criticizing the authorities. The body of the victim, who claims that Nijdad Ibrahim stabbed him several times, shows no signs of wounds.
Lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova met with Nijdad Ibrahim in colony No. 10 today, July 2, his wife reported to the "Caucasian Knot".
"There has been no contact with Nijdad since June 6, when he last called us. We were very worried about him. There were even thoughts about whether he was alive, maybe he was in a coma. These worries were intensified by the fact that the Penitentiary Service and the Ombudsman’s office did not respond to our inquiries properly, did not provide information about what happened to Nijdad. Only two weeks ago, the lawyer was told that Nijdad was in solitary confinement," said the activist's wife.
After Ibrahim's meeting with the lawyer, the family's concern eased somewhat, but relatives still want to talk to him.
"The lawyer finally managed to meet with Nijdad. He is still in solitary confinement, but at least we confirmed that Nijdad is alive. However, we still want to talk to him on the phone, hear his voice. And in general, why has he been kept in solitary confinement for 26 days? He himself says that he did not violate anything. Not only was Nijdad arrested on false charges, but he is also not left alone in the colony," noted Parvin Ibrahim.
Lawyer Sadigova confirmed to a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" the information about her meeting with Nijdad Ibrahim. According to the lawyer, she was unable to obtain official information about the reasons for the activist's disciplinary punishment. She was also not informed how long Ibrahim would remain in solitary confinement.
"I appealed to the administration of the correctional facility to ensure conditions for Nijdad Ibrahim to contact his family," said the lawyer.
It was not possible to obtain comments from the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan for the "Caucasian Knot".
