Residents of Chechnya independently cleaned the banks of the Sunzha.
In the Sernovodsky district, local residents and activists cleaned the coastal area of the Sunzha River on their own.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Chechnya and Ingushetia have repeatedly raised the issue of pollution of the Sunzha River. In the summer of 2022, a video circulated on social media showing that sewage waste was being dumped into the Sunzha. Residents of Ingushetia supported the video's author, and social media users noted that the riverbank was also polluted.
Residents of the Sernovodsky district of Chechnya independently cleaned the banks of the Sunzha River. The organizers were local volunteers and the cultural department of the municipality, reported the state television channel "Grozny" on its website on June 29.
More than 30 volunteers participated in the work – members of youth organizations, activists, and administration staff. They cleaned the coastal area in just a few hours – collecting trash, plastic, and dry vegetation.
"When we went to the shore and saw how much garbage had accumulated, it became clear – without our involvement, nature cannot cope. But the most important thing is that schoolchildren joined us with their parents. Now these children will definitely not throw plastic into the river – they collected it themselves. This is education by example, and I see how people's attitude towards their native nature is changing," said volunteer Adam Adaev, as quoted in the publication.
Let us remind you that the problem of pollution of the Sunzha River has been relevant for a long time. In November 2008, near the village of Assinovskaya in the Sunzhensky district of Chechnya, a change in the color of the water in the Sunzha to yellow was recorded, and mass fish deaths. A group of specialists with a mobile laboratory was sent to the scene, who took water samples for analysis. Emergency Ministry workers imposed a ban on local residents from using water and fishing in the area of the emergency until further notice.
On August 15, 2022, residents of the village of Ali-Yurt in Ingushetia published a video appeal in which they complained that an aluminum profile production plant was polluting the air, and its wastewater was being dumped into a ditch and flowing into the Sunzha River. They noted that, despite protests, the construction of another aluminum production facility was ongoing.
