At the recent meeting, the leadership of the Penitentiary Service of Georgia allowed the transfer of opposition politician Elene Khoshtaria to the "Vivamed" clinic for examination and treatment.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on June 27, it became known that the leader of the "Droa" party, Elene Khoshtaria, who has been in custody for ten months on charges of damaging a campaign poster of Kakhaber Kaladze, is seriously ill. The leadership of the penitentiary institution agreed to allow a doctor to see her.

On June 29, a meeting took place at the Penitentiary Service, where the issue of transferring the leader of the opposition party "Droa" Elene Khoshtaria to a civilian clinic for examination and treatment was discussed. Doctors Maka Ioseliani and Ani Kavtaradze, as well as the head of the medical department of the service, Malkhaz Urtmelidze, were present, reports the Telegram channel "Tbilisi life".

The Penitentiary Service agreed to transfer Khoshtaria to the "Vivamed" clinic for examinations. According to the agency's director general, Giorgi Pataridze, this will happen in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, a rally in support of Khoshtaria was held. Protesters distributed an audio message from the politician, in which she stated that despite the pain, she would never act "as a victim" and is not worried about the decision made at the meeting.

According to Khoshtaria's doctor Maka Ioseliani, she will undergo a full examination and consultations with all specialists at "Vivamed", and the involvement of foreign specialists and therapy based on international recommendations is also not excluded. The decision to return to the penitentiary institution will be made only after the completion of the initial course of treatment.

Let us remind you that on March 24, a court in Tbilisi sentenced the founder of the "Droa" party, Elene Khoshtaria, to 1.5 years of imprisonment, finding her guilty of damaging the campaign banner of Tbilisi Mayor and Secretary General of the "Georgian Dream" Kakhaber Kaladze. Khoshtaria left the inscription "Russian Dream" on the campaign banner of the candidate for mayor of Tbilisi from the "Georgian Dream" Kakhaber Kaladze during a protest in September 2025, who still holds this position. In the video that Khoshtaria herself posted on her Facebook page*, it was visible how she wrote letters on the campaign banner depicting Kaladze with a marker. According to the prosecution, the means used to make the inscription damaged the poster so much that it could not be restored.

Participants in the protests in Georgia, who have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024, have repeatedly expressed support for Khoshtaria and demanded her release.
