Residents of Prokhladny complained about months of non-collection of garbage.
The last time trash was collected at the intersection of Kommunisticheskaya Street and Krasny Lane in Prokhladny was in early March. Since then, the piles of trash have only grown, with children playing nearby, residents complained.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a new regional waste collection operator, "Ekotekhprom," has been operating in Kabardino-Balkaria since May 15th of this year. It replaced the previous company, "Ekologistika," whose operations had been criticized by local residents. However, residents of the region, who had previously reported problems with waste collection, noted that the situation has not yet significantly improved since the launch of "Ekotekhprom." Residents of the city of Prokhladny stated that utility services are essentially failing to fulfill their responsibilities, and appeals to authorities are ineffective.
Residents of Kabardino-Balkaria have repeatedly complained about problems with waste disposal in various cities and villages across the republic. In August 2025, more than 7,400 people signed a petition demanding the termination of cooperation with Ecologistika LLC as the regional waste disposal operator, the selection of a "new reliable operator capable of ensuring timely and high-quality waste disposal" through a competitive process, and the creation of an independent body to monitor the quality of the waste disposal operator.
Residents of the city of Prokhladny have again complained about problems with waste disposal. According to them, the last time trash was removed from the intersection of Kommunisticheskaya Street and Krasny Lane was before March 8th, journalist Ksenia Sobchak reported on her Telegram channel.
To reduce waste, people are burning what they can on their own property, but trash continues to accumulate. "Residents of the street tried to contain their trash as best they could, keeping it in their yards. Grass, branches—they burned everything in barrels. They tried not to pile it up too much. But the pile keeps growing, growing, and growing," the author of the appeal said.
Children from nearby houses are forced to play in the playground next to this dump, and "packs of dogs from the cemetery" come there to feed, the report says.
Residents constantly submit requests for garbage collection, but see no response from those responsible.
Meanwhile, Kirill Kozhukhov, head of the Prokhladny urban district, regularly reports on the cleanup of various parts of the city on his Telegram channel, Sobchak noted.
For example, in a message on June 24, Kozhukhov reported on the cleanup of landfills in the city near the Olimp sports complex. The video attached to the post shows special equipment removing a huge pile of bags.
The mayor did not comment on today's message on his Telegram channel.
Sobchak's message was reposted by the Telegram channel prohlad_no, with two comments.
"Once a week, he cleans up one landfill in the area. So, maybe by 2077, he'll have cleared the city of sewage," writes Djonny Dark.
"What do you mean, 'They're complaining again?'" And they kept complaining. Has anything changed? Some streets are littered with trash left over from Ecologistika. And no one's going to take it away," Olga Ilchenko complained indignantly.
