Four inmates of a Kalmyk penal colony have been convicted in connection with a terrorist organization.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found four members of a terrorist organization created in a penal colony in Kalmykia guilty.

According to investigators and the court, prisoners of the Kalmykia penal colony, Kerimulla Gulmagomedov, Zaurbek Suleimanov, Sergey Kiselev, and Yusup Temirbekov, became members of a terrorist organization created in 2013 in the colony. All attended lectures given by its members, and Gulmagomedov and Suleimanov themselves conducted lectures.

The defendants were found guilty of participating in a terrorist organization . Gulmagomedov was sentenced to 6.5 years, Suleimanov to 7 years, Temirbekov to 9 years, and Kiselev to 7 years and 8 months in prison, Interfax reported today, citing the press service of the Southern District Military Court. Suleimanov and Kiselev will serve their sentences in a special-regime penal colony, while Gulmagomedov and Temirbekov will serve their sentences in a maximum-security penal colony. Three of the convicted men have been added to the Rosfinmonitoring register of terrorists and extremists. According to a bot that tracks updates to this list, Kerimulla Gulmagomedov was born on May 20, 1986, in the city of Kaspiysk in Dagestan. Zaurbek Suleimanov was born in the village of Raguli in Stavropol Krai and is 40 years old. Both were added to the list on December 26, 2022. Yusup Temirbekov, born July 28, 1980, in Makhachkala, was added to the list with a note about involvement in terrorism on June 7, 2023.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of 2025, the leaders of the Kalmyk penal colony received lengthy sentences in the case of a terrorist cell. Pavel Batayev and his deputy, Artur Tsamayev, accused of organizing a terrorist group on the territory of the correctional facility, received 22 and 24 years in prison.
