The attacker on the shopping center in Krasnodar has been arrested for two months.
A court in Krasnodar has remanded in custody until August 20 a young man whose attack at the West Mall shopping center left one person dead and several others injured.
According to the "Caucasian Knot" newspaper, on June 20, a woman died in Krasnodar as a result of an attack by a young man at the West Mall shopping center. Four more people were injured.
The Pervomaisky District Court of Krasnodar arrested the man accused of attacking people in the West Mall shopping center, the joint press service of the courts of Krasnodar Krai reported.
"The investigation petitioned for the accused to be taken into custody. The court, having reviewed the materials, concluded that the petition should be granted. The period of detention is until August 20, 2026," the press service clarified on its Telegram channel on June 22.
The young man is charged under points "e" and "i" of Part 2 of Article 105 and Part 3 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of two or more persons for hooligan motives"), and points "a", "e", "i" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder"). "out of hooligan motives," the statement said.
Part 2 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code, "Murder," carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
As a reminder, the Investigative Committee previously published a video of the interrogation of the West Mall attacker. In the video, he admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. During interrogation, the young man stated that he intended to commit suicide. He has been ordered to undergo a forensic psychiatric examination.
As a result of the attack at the West Mall, one security guard suffered a cut on his hand, another a cut on his thigh, and the other victims also suffered cuts to their extremities.
According to sources, the attacker is 19 years old. Eyewitnesses reported that he ran into the mall and began looking for someone. A security guard approached him, and the young man stabbed him, then began attacking the men who tried to stop him.
The attacker detonated an improvised explosive device, filling the West Mall shopping center with smoke. When arrested, the young man claimed he hadn't been paid. "I wasn't getting paid, I was just tired of life," he said in a video posted on the RusNews Telegram channel.
