A Makhachkala resident is under investigation for a comment about a security officer.

A Makhachkala resident's comment under a video recording of a traffic police officer has led to a criminal case under charges of publicly insulting a government official.

Investigators from Makhachkala's Kirovsky District have opened a criminal case under two charges against a Dagestani resident. The charge of publicly insulting a government official (Article 119 of the Russian Criminal Code) carries a sentence of up to one year of correctional labor, while the charge of online libel (Part 2 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code) carries a sentence of up to two years in prison.

According to investigators, the man, using his personal social media account, commented on a video recording. The Investigative Committee claims the comment contained offensive remarks directed at the traffic police officer, who was on duty.

"Furthermore, the publication disseminated knowingly false information defamatory of the police officer's honor, dignity, and business reputation," the official Telegram channel of the republic's Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated.

The agency added that the investigation is ongoing, but did not specify whether the suspect had been detained or whether a preventive measure had been chosen for him.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in November 2025, police reported the arrest of a 15-year-old teenager from Krasnodar who spat in the back of a police officer. The young man, who had not previously been on the security forces' books, explained after the arrest that he "did not realize what the consequences would be" and apologized for his actions. Spitting at a police officer is considered an insult to a government official, but the law does not allow a 15-year-old teenager to be held criminally liable under this article, lawyers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated.
