Administration of the Almaty pretrial detention facility, Kazakhstan, where Mansur Movlaev is awaiting a decision on his extradition, has placed him in solitary confinement, according to human rights activist Maxim Rudnev. "Mansur was placed in solitary confinement until July 1. According to his lawyer, some kind of 'prohibited item' was found on him," the human rights activist wrote on his Telegram channel on June 21.
Movlaev's health is normal, and pretrial detention facility staff are not violating his rights, Rudnev added.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on June 14, Mansur Movlaev complained about the violation of his rights in the pretrial detention facility. He said that one of the facility staff repeatedly made provocative and offensive statements, raised questions about Movlaev's nationality, and also committed threats and psychological pressure.
As a reminder, in 2022, Mansur Movlaev was detained in Chechnya by security forces and held in an illegal prison. He escaped from there in January 2023 and reached Kyrgyzstan. In August 2023, security forces in Kyrgyzstan detained Movlaev, who was wanted in Russia for financing extremist activities. A court in Bishkek sentenced Movlaev to six months in prison and subsequent deportation from the country. On November 20, 2023, Movlaev was released and voluntarily left Kyrgyzstan to avoid being sent home.
In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan and placed under extradition arrest. The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan ordered his extradition to Russian security forces. In February, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan suspended the enforcement of the decision to extradite Movlaev pending the final review of his asylum application. On May 8, a court in Almaty extended the extradition arrest by two months - until July.
