A soldier from South Ossetia was killed in Ukraine.

South Ossetian resident Andrei Tabuev was killed in the special military operation zone. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, authorities have officially acknowledged at least 97 South Ossetian servicemen killed there.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on May 22, local resident Ruslan Gazzaev, killed in the special military operation zone, was buried in Tskhinvali. On June 20, a farewell ceremony was held in Tskhinvali for serviceman Andrei Tabuyev, who died in the zone of a special military operation, according to a statement published on the website of the President of South Ossetia.

Tabuyev had been missing in action since October 2025. An investigation determined that he died while performing a combat mission. It was not immediately possible to evacuate his body from the battlefield. Tabuyev was 48 years old. By decree of the President of South Ossetia, he was posthumously awarded the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal.

Thus, at least 98 soldiers from South Ossetia have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation.
