Families of those killed on Elbrus were awarded 5.4 million rubles in compensation.

The court ordered the operator of the Elbrus cable car to pay compensation to the relatives of two men who died in an accident in September 2025.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on June 6, the Elbrus District Court, following a lawsuit from the prosecutor's office, ordered Elbrus Pendulum Cable Car LLC to pay 3 million rubles to the parents of a woman who died in a cable car collapse on Elbrus in 2025.

On September 12, 2025, as a result of a cable car cable break on Mount Elbrus, three people were killed and another 11 people were injured. The director and chief engineer of the company servicing the cable car were detained and arrested in connection with the deaths. They were charged under the article on providing dangerous services (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years). The bank accounts of Elbrus MKD LLC were frozen, and the case was referred to court at the end of January.

The Elbrus District Court of Kabardino-Balkaria considered the claims of the prosecutor's office on behalf of the relatives of two men killed in the accident on the Elbrus cable car. The victims' relatives have been awarded compensation for moral damages, the official Telegram channel of the supervisory agency reported today.

By a court decision, Elbrus Pendulum Cableway LLC, which operated the facility, was awarded a total of 5.4 million rubles in damages. The sons of the deceased will each receive 1.3 million rubles, while the widows will receive 1.3 million and 1.5 million rubles, respectively.

The press service of the Elbrus District Court reported that on June 4, a ruling was issued on another prosecutor's claim related to the cableway accident. "The prosecutor's demands were partially satisfied. One of the victims was awarded 1.5 million rubles," the court's website stated.

The criminal case against the former head of the cableway, Akhmat Zalikhanov, and its chief engineer, Yuri Temrokov, is also ongoing. According to the case file on the court's website, another hearing was held today. Witnesses scheduled to be questioned by the court failed to appear at the previous three hearings on May 12, May 25, and June 4.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that in October 2025, the prosecutor's office filed lawsuits on behalf of the sons of two deceased men. One of the victims is seeking 10 million rubles in compensation for the death of their father, and the other is seeking 15 million rubles.

On October 9, the Elbrus District Court banned the operation of the cable car where the fatalities occurred for 60 days. On December 16, cable car operations, including those on the route where the accident occurred, resumed.
