A Krasnodar resident held a picket against the construction of a church.

A resident of the Yubileiny microdistrict in Krasnodar held a picket demanding that a church not be built on Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on January 16, despite protests from residents, the mayor of Krasnodar approved the planning plan for Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment in the Yubileiny microdistrict, where a church is planned to be built. On the morning of April 26, security forces were deployed to Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment, where local residents were protesting the construction of the church. Patriarch Kirill's visit, which was supposed to lay the cathedral's foundation stone, did not take place.

On June 15, a resident of the Yubileiny microdistrict in Krasnodar held a picket against the construction of a church complex on the embankment, the Krasnodar YUMR Telegram channel reported.

Krasnodar residents continue to protest the construction of a religious building in a public space. Residents of the microdistrict are questioning why the church is being built in the densely populated Yubileiny microdistrict. They believe the city has numerous real problems that officials aren't paying enough attention to, the RusNews Telegram channel noted on June 15.

As a reminder, activists have repeatedly held pickets, including one demanding the mayor's resignation. The last picket against the construction of the church took place on April 10th. On January 29th, Krasnodar City Duma deputies approved a decision to seize part of a public garden for the construction of a church. On March 19th, 99% of participants in the public discussion voted against religious services on the Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment in Krasnodar. However, the commission deemed the opinions of those opposed to the church construction irrelevant and recommended that the mayor grant permission for religious services to be held on the embankment. In September 2024, residents of the Yubileiny microdistrict of Krasnodar protested against the development of the Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment, where, according to the city's new general plan, a church was planned. They explained that this was the only major recreation area in the neighborhood. Activists collected signatures for a petition to Governor Veniamin Kondratyev against the development of Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment. More than 3,000 signatures were collected. Caucasian Knot also reported that back in December 2021, activists protested against the construction of a new church on the embankment in Krasnodar, and residents of the Yubileiny microdistrict also protested. Embankment defenders believe it is necessary to build educational and leisure facilities for children in the neighborhood.
