Alizamin Salaev's relatives complained about violations of his rights in prison.

Prison administration placed Alizamin Salayev, an activist with the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, in solitary confinement after he complained about the lack of air conditioning in his cells, his relatives reported.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on May 22, 2023, a court sentenced Alizamin Salayev, head of the Salyan district branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, to four years in prison after finding him guilty of assaulting a passerby. Salayev claimed he was the one attacked by a man armed with a knife. The defense appealed the verdict, but the appellate court upheld it.

Alizamin Salayev's placement in solitary confinement was reported by his relatives. They claim the reason for this is Salayev's protest against the lack of air conditioning in his cells. He demanded that the old fans in his cells be replaced with new ones due to the hot weather, after which the prison administration placed him in solitary confinement, Meydan.tv reported on June 12.

Salayev complained of pressure from the administration of Correctional Colony No. 11, where he is being held. "If news of my death becomes known, know that they killed me," Toplum TV quoted Salayev as saying.

The "Caucasian Knot" has not yet received a comment from the Azerbaijani Penitentiary Service regarding the relatives' complaint about the violation of his rights in prison.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that Salayev's wife and ally had previously reported that the activist's heart pain had worsened in prison, but he was not receiving medical care.

On October 30, 2024, Salayev declared a hunger strike, demanding the release of political prisoners. His wife expressed concern for her husband's health, which had been undermined during previous hunger strikes, and reported that after the hunger strike, he was transferred to a Penitentiary Service medical facility. On November 4, 2024, he ended his hunger strike in prison due to deteriorating health.
